Branding:
The final outcome of a branding will not be seen in its finality until up to 18 months after the branding itself is done. The type of scarring that will occur from all forms of branding will depend on many things, including how the individual normally scars, how quickly the initial wound has healed and how much aftercare aggravation has been done throughout the healing process.
In order to encourage scarring after a branding, we suggest removing any scabbing as much as possible. However, this needs to be done in a controlled manner in order to maintain the original design and not cause any unnecessary tearing of healthy skin. The best way in which to do this is to either softly and carefully remove the scab after a bath or shower, when the scab tissue is softened and easy to dislocate from the surrounding healthy tissue, or to wrap the area in cling film for an hour until the scab has softened, and then softly remove the scab tissue.
More aggravation can be achieved to the healing tissue by using a clean and new toothbrush to scrub at the area once the scabs have been carefully removed, with lemon juice and sea or rock salt.
If you do decide to further aggravate the healing tissue with a toothbrush, lemon juice and / or salt. Then always remember to use a brand new and clean toothbrush, as anything unclean can introduce unhealthy bacteria to the healing area and cause healing issues to occur.
The longer that you continue to remove the scabbing tissue from the branding, the more scar tissue will form to the branded design.
Scarification and Skin Removal:
Scarification and Skin Removal, very much like Branding, takes a lot of effort and time to aggravate the healing tissue in order to gain the most amount of scarring in the designated design as possible. The same methods described to encourage this scar tissue as described in the branding aftercare, is also advised for Scarification and Skin Removal.
It is very important to never remove dry scabs as this can tear the surrounding healthy tissue to the design and warp the final image, so always remove the scab when it has been softened either after a shower or through the covered cling film method.
If you do decide to further aggravate the healing tissue with a toothbrush, lemon juice and / or salt. Then always remember to use a brand new and clean toothbrush, as anything unclean can introduce unhealthy bacteria to the healing area and cause healing issues to occur.
Dermal Punching
It is common for the area to bleed quite heavily once the cartilage has been removed. This loss of blood can be expected for the first few days and is a normal part of the procedure. To help clot the blood flow, pressurise the area with gauze until the bleeding slows. Stretching up to the next gauge can also help staunch blood flow.
Larger sized dermal punches will often heal faster if the jewellery is removed and allowed to heal open. In order to heal the dermal punch to heal and to keep the area clean, you can use the piercing aftercare method. We suggest 1/4 teaspoon of rock or sea salt with a large mug of boiled water. The salt should be mixed with the water and left to cool slightly, however it is advised that the solution should be used as warm as you can take it without scalding yourself. The solution should be used to clean around the scalpelled area with a clean cotton bud, or used as a hot compress by soaking a cotton pad in it and holding it over the scalpelled piercing.
Tongue Splitting:
It is common for the tongue to bleed considerably once it has been split. This can last for a few hours and in due course the area will clot.
It is also common for the area to feel badly bruised, tender and to be swollen. Caution is advised for the first few days until these effects have subsided. Usually after 24 to 36 hours, lymphatic tissue will form on each side of the cut sides, this should be removed at least once daily leaving the tissue raw. Clean thick paper toweling or a cotton bud can aid removal. This does cause slight discomfort but should not be 'put off' because if not removed, the tongue will start to heal back together and if left, will result in the tongue joining together with an indentation on the underside of the tongue. In the first week, talking should be kept to a minimum, as the continuous movement will cause excess swelling to the area. This can sometimes result in the sides sticking together leaving the client no option but to constantly prize each side apart.
Due to swelling and discomfort a liquid diet is advised and the use of ice products and cold liquids highly recommended as these will help ease pain and discomfort and help to reduce swelling.
Each independent side can take up to 2 full months to heal. Although the area may appear healed and is usually manageable within a week, it is common for the tongue to try and seal itself back together during the first few months. Re-growth can occur at anytime during this period.
Re-growth can be trimmed away after the third month resulting in a split of the original length. If the re-growth is not removed, it is in no way detrimental to ones health.
Scalpelled Piercings:
Once the bruising and swelling have gone down, and the blood loss has stopped after the procedure, the area can be treated like a regular piercing and should be cleaned accordingly using salt water solution methods.
